HOW TO OFFER PRAYER, SALAH OR NIMAZ: STEP BY STEP

How to Pray Salah - Easy Guide for Kids

Step 1: Intention (Niyyah)

Stand straight on your prayer mat. In your heart, decide which prayer you are going to pray, like Fajr, Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib or Isha. You don’t have to say anything out loud — Allah knows your intention!

This is like telling yourself: "I am praying for Allah now."

Intention

Step 2: Takbir e Tahreema

Raise both hands next to your ears and say “Allahu Akbar”. This means “Allah is the Greatest.” It’s like starting your special conversation with Allah.

Takbir e Tahreema

Step 3: Qiyam (Standing)

Fold your hands on your chest — right hand over left. Stand still and focus. Begin by saying Sana (a short dua praising Allah).

Try to stand calmly, thinking about Allah and how much He loves you.

Qiyam

Step 4: Ta’awuz & Tasmiya

Say “A’udhu billahi min ash-shaytan ir-rajim” to ask Allah to keep bad things away. Then say “Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim” to begin in Allah’s name, the Most Kind and Merciful.

Ta’awuz & Tasmiya

Step 5: Surah Al-Fatiha

Read Surah Al-Fatiha slowly. This surah asks Allah to guide us to the right path. Try to think about the words as you read.

Step 6: A Short Surah

After Al-Fatiha, read a short surah like Surah Ikhlas, Surah Falaq or Surah Naas. This shows more love for Allah in your prayer.

Step 7: Ruku (Bowing)

Say “Allahu Akbar” and bow down. Place your hands on your knees and keep your back straight. Say “Subhana Rabbiyal Azeem” three times, praising Allah’s greatness.

Ruku

Step 8: I’tidal (Standing after Ruku)

Stand up again and say “Sami’Allahu liman hamidah” (Allah hears those who praise Him). Then say “Rabbana lakal hamd” (Our Lord, to You belongs all praise).

I’tidal

Step 9: Sujood (Prostration)

Say “Allahu Akbar” and go into sujood. Place your forehead, nose, palms, knees, and toes on the ground. Say “Subhana Rabbiyal A’la” three times, praising Allah the Most High.

Sujood

Step 10: Sit Between Sujood

Say “Allahu Akbar” and sit calmly. Ask Allah for forgiveness and mercy.

Step 11: Second Sujood

Say “Allahu Akbar” again and go into sujood once more, just like before.

Second Sujood

Step 12: Jalsa (Final Sitting)

After the last sujood, sit nicely and read Tashahhud and Durood Ibrahimi. This is where we send peace and blessings on our Prophet (ﷺ).

Jalsa

Step 13: Salam

Finish your salah by turning your head to the right saying “Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah”, and then to the left saying the same.

Salam
