Qaida Lesson 2 Quiz (Murakkabat / Compound Letters)

A comprehensive guide and interactive quiz for UK parents and students.

Why Qaida Lesson 2 is the Most Important Step

Welcome to Lesson 2 (Murakkabat). In the previous lesson, your child learned the individual letters (Alif to Yaa). That was the easy part! Now, we move to the real challenge: Compound Letters.

In Arabic, unlike English, letters are written in a cursive style. They hold hands. This means letters change their shapes depending on whether they are at the beginning, middle, or end of a word.

💡 Teacher's Note: This is where 60% of beginners struggle. If a student masters Lesson 2, the rest of the Qaida becomes easy. Do not rush this lesson.

The 3 Golden Rules of Joining

To help children recognize joined letters, we teach them these visual rules at Alif Quran Academy:

ج ← جـ

Rule 1: Cut off the Tail
Most letters (like Jeem, Seen, Saad) lose their big tails and just keep their "head" when joining.

ب ت ث

Rule 2: Dots Don't Move
The shape might change, but the number and position of dots remain the same. This is your best clue!

ه ـهـ ـه

Rule 3: The Shape Shifters
Some letters, like Haa (ه) and Kaf (ك), look completely different when joined.

Common Mistakes in Lesson 2

As you practice with your child, look out for these common errors:

  • Confusing Noon and Baa: Both look like small teeth when joined. Remind them: Noon is a dot above, Baa is a dot below.
  • The "Laam-Alif" Confusion: Children often think "Laam-Alif" (لا) is just one letter. It is actually two: Laam followed by Alif.
  • Yaa in the Middle: When Yaa (ي) is in the middle of a word, it looks exactly like Baa or Taa, but with two dots below.

How Alif Quran Academy Helps
