A comprehensive guide and interactive quiz for UK parents and students.
Welcome to Lesson 2 (Murakkabat). In the previous lesson, your child learned the individual letters (Alif to Yaa). That was the easy part! Now, we move to the real challenge: Compound Letters.
In Arabic, unlike English, letters are written in a cursive style. They hold hands. This means letters change their shapes depending on whether they are at the beginning, middle, or end of a word.
To help children recognize joined letters, we teach them these visual rules at Alif Quran Academy:
Rule 1: Cut off the Tail
Most letters (like Jeem, Seen, Saad) lose their big tails and just keep their "head" when joining.
Rule 2: Dots Don't Move
The shape might change, but the number and position of dots remain the same. This is your best clue!
Rule 3: The Shape Shifters
Some letters, like Haa (ه) and Kaf (ك), look completely different when joined.
