Learn the proper method, dua, and significance of the Islamic funeral prayer
"O Allah, forgive our living and our dead, those present and those absent, our young and our old, our men and our women. O Allah, whoever among us You keep alive, keep them alive upon Islam, and whoever You cause to die, cause them to die upon faith. O Allah, do not deprive us of his reward, and do not let us go astray after him."
Important: The Janazah prayer is valid only if performed by Muslims who have reached puberty. The deceased must have been a Muslim.
The Janazah prayer has four takbeers (saying "Allahu Akbar") with specific supplications for each position. Here is the complete method:
Begin with "Allahu Akbar" and recite Surah Al-Fatihah silently. Then seek refuge with Allah from Shaytan.
Say "Allahu Akbar" and send blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) as you would in the final tashahhud of regular prayer.
Say "Allahu Akbar" and make dua for the deceased using the prescribed supplication provided above.
Say "Allahu Akbar", pause briefly, then say "Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah" to the right and then to the left to conclude the prayer.
Note: If the deceased is a child under puberty, a different dua is recited: "O Allah, make him/her a forerunner for his parents, a treasure, a reward, and an intercessor whose intercession will be accepted."
